How do I create a class in Teams for education?

Educators who have not had training in our Microsoft teams for education course always ask about how they can create a new class in Teams for Education. This is often due to Educators finding themselves with new additions to the class that haven’t been added to the class properly by the technical staff and need to be added during class time.

Our videos below demonstrate how to create a new class for a user using the desktop client.


  • First Navigate to the Teams tab.
  • Select the Join or create a team button in the top right corner.
  • Select the Create a team button on the tile. Choose to make the team a Class team, composed of students and teachers.
  • Give your class a name and then if necessary a description.
  • Add people to the class as either students, or as teachers.
